Natural Deodorant

Oh boy are deodorants a difficult one for me. For years I have struggled with finding a deodorant that doesn’t make my skin break out in a rash, and then I FINALLY found one! I’ve used it for years only to read through the ingredients again randomly and find it has talc in it. Ugh. So back on the hunt I went.

I chose a few years ago to ditch most of my “mainstream” products and opt for natural ones. This was mostly due to my severely sensitive skin but also because I started working at a natural spa and learned about how harmful some of these products can actually be. But even some “natural” products will make my skin breakout. And many products are marketed as being natural, but they don’t really fit my definition of what natural should be.

Like I said above I used an “all-natural” deodorant only to find that it did indeed contain harmful ingredients, such as talc. So I bought some from a brand that is one of the leading natural brands, and within a couple of days both of my arms were coated in an itchy rash.

So I returned to Walmart after reading MANY reviews on the top natural brand currently. And I was there reading the label and it has many ingredients that I recognize and some that I don’t know what the heck they are. Then I saw a bottle of spray deodorant that I had never heard of. I turned it to look at the ingredients and there were only FOUR ingredients and they were things that are completely familiar. I looked it up and it actually had great reviews!

So now after nearly a month of use (in the middle of summer and during a beach vacation to Florida) I can say it works great! I have had no body odor or problems with the product. And the ingredients are so simple I can make it myself instead of buying it in the store.

Natural Deodorant Recipe

  • Purified Water
  • Isopropyl Alcohol
  • Lemon Essential Oil
  • Lavender Essential oil

I might try adding a little orange essential oil as well or swapping some of the other oils out. If you have more of a body odor problem then tea tree might also be a good option as well.

I will update this recipe once I have nailed down the exact amounts of each to use. If you are curious about the brand, let me know and I will give you more info!

XoXo,

Stephanie
