Minimalist Hospital Bags for Mommy, Daddy, & Baby

When I was going to have my baby I didn’t want to worry about having to lug in huge bags for our short hospital stay. So here is a short list of what we actually used and I recommend to have.

Minimalist Hospital Bags

Mommy’s Bag

  • Comfortable slip on shoes
  • Shower flip flops
  • Yoga or sweat pants (3 pair)
  • Camisoles or nursing tanks (3)
  • Maternity/Nursing pajamas
  • Socks (3 pair)
  • Nursing Bras (2-3)
  • Toiletries
  • Chapstick
  • Hairbrush/comb
  • Hair elastics
  • Phone
  • Charger
  • Speaker
  • Essential oils & diffuser
  • Boppy
  • Insurance card
  • License

Daddy’s Bag

We only live about 10 minutes from the hospital so my husband was able to go home a couple times during my stay. If you live further and don’t think he will want or be able to go home pack a little extra just in case.

  • Change of clothes
  • Pajamas
  • Pillow
  • Blanket
  • Phone
  • Charger
  • Snacks
  • Toiletries

Snacks were something we didn’t pack but wished we had. My labor was relatively short so he didn’t need them then, but he got tired of vending machine snacks and junk from the food court during the rest of our stay.

Baby’s Bag

The hospital provided a sleeping gown, socks, and a cap. I didn’t use their gown but the socks I used as mittens as well as socks because her hands were too small and the mittens I brought wouldn’t stay on. So keep that in mind if you choose to bring cute little mittens. I also packed bows and head bands but they were all too big for here until she was nearly a month old.

  • Sleeping gown
  • Onesie
  • Mittens
  • Socks
  • Cap
  • Going home outfit
  • Blanket
  • Car seat
  • Baby book

Blankets were also provided by the hospital but I brought one for the ride home. Don’t worry about diapers, wipes, etc those will all be provided for you as well.

And that’s it! If you want to see the why’s behind the Mommy’s bag items check out “Your Hopsital Bag: Do’s and Don’t Waste Your Time”.

I recommend packing your bags by the time you are 37 weeks, just in case baby decided to come early. Put them all together in your room or by the door for easy access. Good luck!!
